Commissioners' Minutes

Commissioner's Minutes, 1753-May 2004.

Description: Commissioner Minute Books are a chronological recording of all Commissioner meetings. Early Commissioner Minute Books were called "Minutes of the Board of County Commissioners/County Council." We have four books from 1753-1824 that possess this title. The later books from 1873-2004 are termed "Commissioner Minute Books." The span of time covered in each book varies from several years per volume to one year per volume. There is a gap of missing books from 1825-1872. The early dockets are not indexed; they will need to be searched by date. Most of the later dockets are indexed within the book.

Content: This series encompasses the business at each Commissioner's meeting including all issues discussed, resolutions made, policies passed, motions, etc., that pertain to the daily function of the county. The early dockets that run from 1753-1824 may include additional information such as agreements, elections, accounts and releases of taxes. The entries will include the date of the meeting and will state whether all members of the board are present. It may also include the names of the commissioners present and the signature of the Chief Clerk recording the minutes.
