Coroner's Records


Coroner's papers 1796-1819, 1858-1958.

Description: The coroner investigates all sudden, mysterious or violent deaths that occur in the county. The coroner then issues a certificate listing the probable cause of death. In doing such an investigation, the coroner may hold an inquest where witnesses are summoned.

Content: The papers will list the name, address and age of the deceased, cause of death, signature of coroner, and date of examination. The records may also include depositions and the names of the jurors and their signatures.
